In the recent Regional Meet, Dammy Dada went 39-11 in the triple jump, but did not place.
The best track and field athletes the Northeastern Conference has to offer were on display Saturday at Manning Field in Lynn at the NEC Open.
In the boys competition, Peabody was simply too strong and used the depth of its
lineup to easily win over second-place Gloucester with Swampscott placing third.
The girls race belonged to Danvers as the Falcons only won two events but used
the rest of their roster to take the minor placings and 104 points for a
16-point win over Beverly. Peabody finished third.
The Peabody boys spent much of the day collecting first place finishes, taking
seven of them in all, including a sweep of all three relays on the day. Jamal
Abu-Hijleh was a double winner for Peabody, taking the long jump (20-11 1/4) and
200 (22.1).
Peabody also got event wins from Zach Grube in the high hurdles (15.5) and T.J.
D'Amato in the 2-mile (10:04.7). The Tanners also took the 4x100 (43.9), 400
(3:33.6) and 800 (8:38.2) relays. The final two relays were won by less than a
second over Gloucester.
Lynn English posted a solid fifth place finish in the boys competition,
finishing with 46 points.
ENGLISH WINS TRACK MEET
The English boys track team steamrolled its
cross-town rival, Classical, on Thursday, 97-30 at Manning Field. Leading the
way for English was the dynamic duo of Ricky Kimber and Melvin Tavares.
Kimber won in the 400 hurdles (58.1), the 100 hurdles (11.3) and the high
jump. Tavares took first in the 100 (11.3), 200 (23.1), and the long jump
(18-6).
"These two guys have been worth gold all season for us," said English coach John
Walsh. "They have been great for us all season and we can always count on them
for solid performances."
Also winning for English (3-4) were Chris Birotte, 2-mile (11:53); Jared Fossa,
mile (5:15); Camy Ducasse, 400 (52.2); Jesse Birotte, 800 (2:13); Derrick
Stevens, shot put.

NEC Frosh-Soph Meet
In the Northeastern Conference Freshman/Sophomore meet,
Swampscott won both the girls and boys meet for the second year in a row.
The Big Blue's boys team had six first-place finishers: including double winner
Jermaine Kelly, javelin (143-1) and 110 hurdles (15.9); Matt Nardiello, 400
hurdles (62.0); 4x100 (48.5); 4x400 (3:48.6); and 4x800 (9:16.2). The girls team
placed first in two events: Nancy Do, long jump (15-7 1/4); and Melinda Wilson,
discus (80-11).
The other boys to place first were: Tizauni Boyles, English, high jump (5-6);
Joe Manson, Danvers, shot put (42-1); Olisa Obiefuna, Saugus, long jump (21-5)
and 200 (23.0); Tyree Williams, Marblehead, 100 (11.8); Ben Martinez, Peabody,
triple jump (36-2 3/4); Kenny Pierce, Beverly, 400 (54.4); Noah Mondello,

Dammy Dada was a triple winner in the 400
meters (1:05), 110 hurdles (17.5), and triple jump (40-10). The triple jump mark
for Dada qualifies him for states. George Clark

Jalen Brown had two third-place finishes

2009 Season

June 1, 2009 - - - This past Saturday Lynn Classical track captain Calvin Harris
placed 4th in the Division 1 State Meet in the 100 meter dash. This qualifies
Calvin for the All-State meet this Saturday in Fitchburg. This is the third
consecutive year that Calvin has placed in the Division 1 state meet and the
third different event he has placed in (200 meter and 4 x 100 meters).
In addition this past week Calvin was named a NEC all-star and co-MVP of the NEC
north. In his career Calvin has won 4 NEC conference championships in addition
to 2 - 2nd place finishes, a third place finish and a 4th place finish. Calvin
has accomplished all of this despite two major knee surgeries. Calvin's career
bests include 10.7 in the 100 meters, 22.3 in the 200 meters, 44.0 in the 4 x
100 meters and a 22'0" long jump.

English 68, Classical 59
A win in any matchup between English and Classical can go
a long way toward ending the season on a high note and this year, it was the
English boys track team and the Classical girls track team who went home happy.
English won the boys meet, 68-59, led by Ricky Kimber, who took first in the 400
hurdles (59.0) and the 110 hurdles (15.8). Camy Ducasse won the 400 (52.6) and
triple jump (39-11); Jesse Birotte, the 800; Chris Birotte, the mile; Alex
Santos, the two-mile and Jesse Fowler, the long jump, 20-2. Kordel Latimer took
second in the 400 hurdles and 800 and Matt Blaney was second in the two-mile.
Classical also had some nice performances. Calvin
Harris won the 100 (11.4) and 200 (22.9);
Chevere Archer, the high jump
(6-1) Danny Omoreggie,
the shot put (42-8); Dexter Dowe,
the discus (119 feet). The Rams won the 4x400 with
Rafael Garcia, Marven-Rhode Hyppolite, Cristian Lopez
and Jaquan Huston.
Classical also won the 4x100 relay.
Revere 70, Classical 57
At Manning Field, Felipe Garcia
had a big day for the Rams, winning the long jump (19-1 1/2), the 200 (24.5) and
the triple jump (38-3). Classical swept the long with
Calvin Harris and Rudy Collimore
taking second and third. Jamil Muriel,
Garcia, Jaquan Huston and Calvin Harris won the
4x100 relay (46.4) and qualified for the states and
Danny Dada and Angel Melendez
went 2-3 in the 400 hurdles.
Salem 80, Classical 45
At Manning Field, Felipe Garcia won the triple
jump (40-6) and qualified for the states. He also placed second in the 400
(56.3) and long jump (19-3). Other winners for the Rams include
Danny Omoreggie in the shot put (43-0),
Chevere Archer in the 200 meters (24.2) and the
4x100 meter relay team of Archer, Garcia, Jaquan Huston
and Calvin Harris.
Underclass Runners Impress at NEC Freshman-Sophomore Meet
The future stars of the Northeastern Conference were on display this weekend, as Peabody hosted the NEC Freshman/Sophomore League Meet. Danvers' girls team put together the league's most impressive day, with 123 points, while Swampscott won the boys competition, with 104 points. Both of Classical's first-place finishes came in throwing events: Daniel Omoreggie, shot put (42-3); and Dexter Dowe, discus (109-1).

At Beverly, the Rams picked up three first-place finishes with
Felipe Garcia
winning the triple jump (38-11), Dexter Dowe,
the discus (109 feet) and Danny Omoreggie
the shot put (40-9). Paul Buccheri
recorded a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:33 and
Perry Raymond had a personal
best in the two-mile with a 12:25. Angel Melendez
finished second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 400 hurdles;
Chevere Archer
took second in the 200 meters (24.8) and third in the high jump.
Gloucester 82, Classical 43
At Manning Field, the Rams (0-1) got wins from Angel
Melendez in the 400 hurdles (1:12) and the
4x100 relay thanks to Chevere Archer,
Jamil Muriel, Jaquan Houston and Calvin Harris (46.5).
Harris added a second in the 100, Archer, a second in the high jump (5-6), and
Huston a second in the triple jump.

Track Roundup: Peabody wins both boys and girls championships in NEC meet
Manning Field may be the stomping ground of all four Lynn
schools, but at Saturday's Northeastern Conference track meet, the girls and
boys squads from Peabody treated the newly refurbished sporting venue as their
own.
The Tanners were victorious in both competitions with the boys collecting 97
points and their counterparts scoring 99.
The first place Peabody boys were followed by Gloucester (78), Beverly (55),
Salem (44), Swampscott (43), Classical (36), Revere (32), Danvers (31), English
(26), Marblehead (21), Saugus (18) and Winthrop (15).
Finishing behind the Tanner girls were Beverly (93), Danvers (75), Marblehead
(68), Winthrop (40), Swampscott (38), Gloucester (31), Saugus (27), Salem (21),
English (3), Revere (1) and Classical (0).

English Track Squads Sweep Classical
At the end of the day, English stood supreme as both the
girls and boys track teams claimed victory over rival Classical.
The English boys won 71-51, while the girls won 79-48.
"We had a lot of people step up with important points in second and third
place," said English coach Mike Toomey. "We moved some people around
and tried to get good matchups. The kids came through today."
For the English boys, the winners were Julio Arzu, 100 and 200; Charlie Rucker,
shot put and discus; Ricky Kimber, 300 hurdles; Camy Ducasse, 400; Dan Cabe, 100
hurdles; Jesse Birotte, mile; and Kordel Latimer, 800.
For the Classical boys, the winners were Quivari Jackson, triple jump (40-8.5)
and long jump (19-4); Thevere Archer, high jump (5-8); Rafael Villatoro, 2-mile
(13:01); and Jackson, Calvin Harris, Robert Ramsay, and Kashawn Avery, 4x100
relay (45.6).
At Salem, the Rams had two individual winners. Quivari
Jackson won both the long jump (19-7) and the triple jump (39-7.5), while Calvin
Harris took first place in the 100 (11.6).
Classical Beats Winthrop

The Classical boys
and girls track teams had mixed results against Winthrop Tuesday at Manning
Field. The boys defeated the Vikings for the first time in 20-plus years, 66-55,
while the Winthrop girls came away with a 79-47 victory.
In the boys meet, Calvin Harris was impressive in his first meet, qualifying for
the states with a first in the 100 (11.0). He also won the long jump (19-5) and
was on the winning 4x100 relay that also included Quivari Jackson, Kayshawn
Avery and Robert Ramsay (45.93).
Jackson also won the 200 (23.6) and qualified for the states. Tyler Alicudo won
the 400 (62.3) and Rafael Villatoro, the two-mile (12.25).
Winthrop, which won the Northeastern Conference title last year, was undermanned
and the absences proved costly. Dan Sena stumbled and still managed to win the
300 intermediate hurdles (48.0); Joe Wallace won the mile (5:22); Stephen Keough,
the shot put (41-6 1/2); Ricky Sheldon, the discus (102 feet); Ben Sena, high
jump (5-6) and 800 (2:22); and Adam Pirone, high hurdles (17.5).
Peabody
125, Classical 11 4/15/08
At
Peabody, Quivari Jackson was a bright spot for the Rams (0-2), qualifying for
the states with his winning performances in the long jump (20-5 1/2) and triple
jump (40-5 1/2).
The Tanners (2-0) were led by double winners Nour Shahen, shot put (46-10) and
discus (135-5), and Michael Berlangieri, high jump (6-2) and 100 meters (11.2).
Peabody freshmen Keane Perenzoni won the mile (11:25), Derek Gomes, the 200
(23.6); Ramses Montero, the 400 (:54); and Josh Green, the 800 (2:07.11).
Saugus 76, Classical 46
At Manning Field, Saugus won its first event of the season.
Winning for Classical were Quivari Jackson, long jump (19-5) and triple jump
(39-11). The Classical relay team of Jackson, Jaquan Houston, Gary Sisson, and
Tony Johnson won the 4x100 (49.4).

The Classical boys track team won four events, placing third in the NEC Open Monday at Hurd Stadium. Gloucester won the meet with 99 points, outdistancing second-place Salem by 24 points. Frances Mathieu Leads the Way as Classical Sweeps English
Frances Mathieu won the triple jump, the long jump and the 200 to lead the Classical girls track team past rival English, 68-53, Tuesday at Manning Field.Classical (2-6) swept the triple jump led by Jackson
(39-3), followed by Tony Johnson and K.C. Johnson. Lionel Malumba win the high
jump and Jaquan Huston led a sweep of the 400 (52.0). Stanley same and Tony
Johnson took second and third. Same Smith won the 800 (2:40) and Alex Sewell,
the 2-mile (12:38).
English's Sam Gurno won the 200 (24.3); Matt Bynum took second in the mile,
Julio Arzu, third in the 100 and Cory Simmons and Byron Brown tied for second in
the high jump

At
Manning Field, the Rams earned a split in their first meet at the new facility.
Classical (1-1) swept the 100 against Revere with the trio of Tarlee Teah, Nate
Guy and Quivari Jackson. Jackson, Robert Ramsay, Guy and Teah won the 4x100
relay against both teams with a time of 48.2 and Jackson won the long jump
against Revere, 19-4.
Andrew Kinloch won the discus against both teams with a throw of 112 feet, and
he won the shot put against Saugus (39-7). Lionel Malumba won the high jump
against Revere and Tony Johnson, Ramsey and Stanley Sam swept the 200 against
Revere; Raphael Villatoro won the 2-mile against Revere.
